I wish

How I wish to be a bird
Perched on a branch—
The swaying wind —
my lone companion.

How I wish to be a bird
Soaring through the sky—
The wind weaving through my feathers—
The sun by my side.

How I wish to be a bird
Free from these chains—
That bound my soul—
Holding me captive till my final breath.

If I was a bird—
I would fly—
Over the mountains, valleys and rivers—
Beyond the seven seas!

How I wish I was a bird.
